If you do not have a website, you are nobody – thats what they are saying in our world today. If you believe that – and maybe you ought to – you need to get a website. Rather than spending money on a contract for one, how about learning to make your own website.

The language that websites are written in is called HTML. Learning HTML all by itself can be a little tricky, not because it is difficult, but because its scope is enormous. So, programs have been developed with WYSIWYG features that lets you design a HTML website without knowing any HTML.

There are various low end online suites available that let you design a website. However, these are very limited offerings and you cannot usually customize your website and make it unique. For that, you need to learn some desktop based programs.

The easiest of these is Microsoft Frontpage. This is a simple design based program that has a thousand flaws and limitations, but still can let you design a decent website thats about a thousand times better than those online software suites.

Once you get tired of the quirks of Frontpage and grow up, you have to take on Dreamweaver. This is the mother of all WYSIWYG website design software. It is a complex, sophisticated and multipurpose software that can either let you design an easy website quickly, or let you release your pent up creative energy and design a masterpiece of web programmed website.

Once you get the hang of Dreamweaver, it is time to learn Flash. Flash is not a web designing software, as such; it is more a multimedia desinging program. However, since the web is dead without multimedia, Flash is something you ought to invest time in.

Once you are here, there’s a host of things like Java, Javascript, ASP and php that you can learn to enhance your website in many different ways.
